Anti-stigma project - Naturalistic study of adolescents and young adults in schools to combat the stigma of mental illness
Mental illness is still a taboo subject in our society and is associated with many prejudices. People with mental illness are therefore often marginalized and disadvantaged.
BASTA - Bündnis für psychisch erkrankte Menschen e.V. has been running an anti-stigma project in schools for many years. The participating classes receive learning material to prepare for the meeting with two members of the organization, a person affected by mental illness who talks about their own experiences, accompanied by a specialist who moderates and provides technical support.
An evaluation study will examine the effectiveness of the school project in terms of reducing the stigmatization of mental illness and increasing stigma-related knowledge about mental illness among young people.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research via the German Center for Mental Health (funding reference 01EE2303B) and is registered in the German Register of Clinical Studies (registration number: DRKS00033647).
