Hui is a psychiatrist and obtained her doctorate in medicine at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, China. She had her residency training at Shanghai Mental Health Center and later worked as an attending psychiatrist in the Department of Medical Psychology, Shanghai General Hospital.

In June 2021, she moved to Munich and since then she works as the Managing Editor of the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group. Her research interests are dose-response meta-analyses of antipsychotic-induced side effects and systematic reviews on non-invasive interventions for schizophrenia.
